Chevrolet Silverado 1500: information, price and comparisons

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is GM's full-size pickup and one of Canada's best-selling vehicles: the Silverado nameplate, including heavy-duty models, sold 54,068 units in 2025, fifth among all vehicles. 2026 is the last year of the current generation. An all-new 2027 Silverado, priced from CA$52,999, reaches Canadian dealers in late November and December 2026 with two new V8s and a simpler trim lineup that drops the LT and RST. The other big change is where it's built: GM has confirmed that its Oshawa, Ontario, plant stops building the Silverado 1500 in November 2026, and the 2027 model comes exclusively from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Silao, Mexico.

Oshawa and where the Silverado is built

GM's Oshawa Assembly in Ontario has built the Silverado alongside plants in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Silao, Mexico. In October 2026, GM confirmed that Oshawa will stop building the Silverado 1500 in November 2026; The Car Guide called it another consequence of the Canada-U.S. trade war. Oshawa will expand Silverado HD output instead, and the next-generation GMC Sierra HD is due to join it later. Oshawa had already lost its third shift and about 700 jobs in early 2026.

The 2027 Silverado 1500 is built exclusively in Fort Wayne and Silao. Many Silverados sold in Canada already came from Mexico.
